Chai Ka masala



We are Gujaratis and we are very fond of "Masala Chai".Every Gujarati Household "Masala Chai" is generic.Staying away from Gujarat has given us the exposure into variety of different form of Teas.We have several friends who are non Gujaratis and when they visit us they ask for "Gujarati Chai",initially we used to get confused,but found out that the Masala Chai is being referred as Gujarati Chai.A very simple recipe for making the masala.I have adapted this recipe from Tarla Dalal.If you add this to your cup of tea I am sure you would be refreshed.





Samagri(Ingredients)
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon (dalchini) small pieces
  • 1/4 cup cardamom(elayachi)
  • 1/4 cup black peppercorns(kali mirch)
  • 1/4 cup mace (javitri)
  • 1/4 cup dried ginger powder(sounth powder)
  • 1/8 cup cloves(loung)
  • 1/2 nutmeg (jaiphal)
  • 6 black cardamom(badi elayachi)
Vidhi(Direction)
  • Dry roast the cinnamon,cloves,black pepper,cardamom and black cardamom for 7 to 8 min. cool completely.
  • Add mace(javitri),nutmeg(jayphal) and ginger powder(sounth powder) and grind to make a fine powder.


                           
Notes
  • use 1/2 tsp for 2 cups of tea.
